Cannabis is effective in reducing chronic pain
Cannabis is effective in reducing chronic, bone and muscle pain
According to a survey by the Sociedade Brasileira de Estudos da Dor (SBED), 37% of the Brazilian population, about 60 million people, report feeling pain fromformchronic. This percentage is even higher when the subject is Myalgia (63%) and Osteoarthritis (80%). These numbers indicate that a portion of the population suffers daily from problems related to pain. However, medical cannabis has been shown to be efficient in reducing chronic, bone and muscle pain.
Pain is a warning that something is not right, so feeling it is fundamental for us to maintain the integrity of the body. However, when the pain is chronic, it is necessary to seek a palliative solution that helps maintain the patient's quality of life.
Diseases that damage the nervous system make the pain system continuously active. It's what we call neuropathic pain, where, many times, the pain becomes the disease. In these cases, and many others, medical cannabis has proven to be very effective, as it controls neuropathic stimuli, as cannabinoid receptors are widely distributed throughout the body.
Several studies confirm the efficiency of medical cannabis in the case of bone and muscle pain such as: osteoporosis, osteomyelitis, arthritis, myalgia, fibromyalgia, tendinitis, bursitis, in addition to low back pain and pain in the spine, including (vertebrae), disks, muscles and ligaments that support the body. “Conventional treatments commonly prescribed for the control of chronic bone, joint and muscle pain, whether due to injuries, trauma, orthopedic surgeries or the worsening of degenerative diseases, include opioids, which are analgesic drugs that generate more dependence and toxicity. Cannabidiol, on the other hand, is much less aggressive and does not interfere with the quality of life of patients.
In treatment
For the athlete and ITI patient, Carla Machado, treatment with cannabidiol is fundamental.
“I have several injuries, micro-lesions, arthritis in the fingers, I've already torn tendons, knee ligaments, and CBD and CBG help me a lot. I've been using it for some time and I notice clearly less swelling, stiffness and pain, in addition to a faster muscle recovery, which makes me more willing and able to train day in, day out”, explains the athlete.
The effectiveness of medical cannabis treatment is also felt when it comes to migraine, a chronic disease that affects around 20% of women, according to studies by the Brazilian Headache Society.
Migraine is a very debilitating chronic disease and we have noticed an effectiveness in the treatment with cannabis, which generates a reduction in attacks and seizures.
